Book Report..

I wrote my report on The Freedom Writers Diary by The Freedom Writers and Erin Gruwell. At first shes a student teacher at Wilson High School in Long Beach California. One day a Mexican kid sent a note to all the other kids and it was about a black kid that had big lips so they made the lips look huge. When the teacher saw the note she got really mad and told the kids that’s what Germans did during the holocaust. From that day forward she taught that class about the holocaust. They read The Diary Of Anne Frank and Zlatas Diary: A Child's life in Sarajevo and were able to relate their situation to theirs. The kids got to meet Miep Gies the woman that hid Anne frank and her family. They also got to meet Gerda Siefer a survivor of the holocaust. They also wrote to Zlata hoping she would respond to their letters and she did so they got to meet her and talk to her about her experiences. Some of the kids went to see Schindler's List and got to visit a holocaust museum and at the beginning of the tour they got a persons name and got to learn more about them and at the end off the tour they got to find out if the person lived or died. They loved their teacher and wanted to be with her for junior and senior year but the teachers wouldn’t let her. They finally decided to let her be their teacher for the next two years. For their last writing assignment they put all of their diaries together to make a book. They wanted the U.S. secretary of education to read it because hes the most important person in education. They finally got enough money to go to Washington to go give it to him. They all went to Washington and went sight seeing and went to the official museum of the holocaust and Miep and Gerda went with them and when they got to one room Gerda broke down in tears because in front of them was a boxcar that carried Jews to concentration camps.Once they got back to the hotel they saw graffiti on a wall and decided to come up with their own logo and once they were finished they held hands in front of the memorial and yelled Freedom Writers. That day in front of the Washington Memorial they yelled freedom writers again but this time they realized they were living MLK's dream.
